Design Toolkit is a newly established, non-profit organization headquartered in Thessaloniki, Greece. Its main purpose is the organization of informative, educational and promotional activities and events regarding visual communication and graphic design, in Greece and abroad.

Design Toolkit was born from a lack and a decision. Two of the organization’s founders, experienced professional graphic designers living and working in Thessaloniki, often noted in their conversations the lack of any graphic design-related events in their city. Noting this lack, they were led to the decision: to do something to amend it.

In Thessaloniki, and in Greece in general, there are numerous successful professionals in graphic design and visual communication, whose work has both national and international impact. Their ranks are continuously renewed with new generations of students and graduates of related schools, who are keen to create. At the same time, however, there is a remarkable lack of events pertaining to graphic design and visual communication – either informative, promotional or educational.

Design Toolkit was created to fill this void. We believe that the collective progress of any creative field depends on the technical training and knowhow of its members, but primarily on fruitful dialogue, interaction, and creative competition between them. The goal of Design Toolkit is to create a framework for the organization of activities and events that will provide training of young designers, space for the exchange of knowledge and the creation of knowhow in the field, and the promotion and recognition of the creative output of both newcomers and established designers.

Design Toolkit fosters the creation of an active community of graphic design and visual communication professionals – a community that will interact, exchange knowledge and experience, recognize achievements, and promote healthy professional competition. Το Design Toolkit γεννήθηκε από μία έλλειψη και μία απόφαση. Οι εμπνευστές του, έμπειροι επαγγελματίες γραφίστες με έδρα τη Θεσσαλονίκη, στις μεταξύ τους συζητήσεις διαπίστωναν συχνά την έλλειψη διοργανώσεων στην πόλη τους που να αφορούν στη γραφιστική. Η διαπίστωση αυτής της έλλειψης οδήγησε στην απόφαση: αφού δεν έβρισκαν απάντηση στο «γιατί δεν», αποφάσισαν να ασχοληθούν με το «γιατί όχι».

Στη Θεσσαλονίκη, και ευρύτερα στην Ελλάδα, υπάρχει σημαντικό ανθρώπινο δυναμικό που ασχολείται με αξιώσεις, και με εθνική και διεθνή απήχηση, με την οπτική επικοινωνία και τη γραφιστική. Το δυναμικό αυτό ανανεώνεται διαρκώς από μια νέα γενιά σπουδαστών και αποφοίτων σχετικών σχολών, που έχουν μεγάλη όρεξη και διάθεση να δημιουργήσουν. Ταυτόχρονα, όμως, υπάρχει αξιοσημείωτη έλλειψη σε εκδηλώσεις και διοργανώσεις που να αφορούν στην οπτική επικοινωνία και τη γραφιστική – ενημερωτικές, προβολής, ή εκπαιδευτικές.

Το Design Toolkit δημιουργήθηκε για να απαντήσει σε αυτή την έλλειψη. Πιστεύουμε ότι η συνολική πρόοδος ενός δημιουργικού κλάδου εξαρτάται από την τεχνική κατάρτιση των μελών του, αλλά κυρίως από τον γόνιμο διάλογο, την αλληλεπίδραση και τον δημιουργικό ανταγωνισμό μεταξύ τους. Έτσι, στόχος του Design Toolkit είναι να δημιουργήσει ένα πλαίσιο που θα ενθαρρύνει δράσεις και εκδηλώσεις για την κατάρτιση νέων γραφιστών, την ανταλλαγή γνώσεων και τη δημιουργία τεχνογνωσίας στον χώρο, την προβολή και αναγνώριση της δημιουργικής παραγωγής τόσο νέων όσο και καταξιωμένων γραφιστών.

Το Design Toolkit προάγει τη δημιουργία μιας ενεργής κοινωνίας επαγγελματιών της οπτικής επικοινωνίας και της γραφιστικής – μιας κοινωνίας που θα αλληλεπιδρά, θα ανταλλάσει γνώσεις και εμπειρίες, θα αναγνωρίζει τα επιτεύγματα, θα προάγει την επαγγελματική ευγενή άμιλλα.
